Where the Seas Divide but the Skies Unite
In August 1941, before the U.S. entered World War II, the Royal Air Force opened the No. 1 British Flying Training School in Terrell. The Texas Historical Commission records that it trained about 2,200 RAF cadets and 138 U.S. Army Air Forces cadets under the motto "the seas divide, but the skies unite".
The last cadets left from Terrell's railroad station on September 10, 1945, and a museum honoring the school opened in the city in 2002.
