Forney
Old Streets, New Slabs
Forney has two kinds of concrete. Close to downtown and along US 80 are homes and shops that have stood for decades, with garages that show it: oil stains, old paint, patched cracks. Around them, new subdivisions are adding fresh slabs faster than almost anywhere in the country.
Both are good candidates for a coating, but they start from different places. Older floors need more grinding, stain removal and crack work. New floors need time to cure and a moisture check. This guide covers both.
Forney Homes and Their Garages
Most new Forney homes come with an attached garage on a modern concrete slab. Many owners coat it in the first year, before storage piles up.
Older homes nearer the historic downtown often have smaller garages, carports or detached shops. These usually need more preparation, but they are often the floors that improve the most.
Local history
From Brooklyn to the Antique Capital
Forney began in 1871 as a settlement called Brooklyn. When the Texas and Pacific Railway arrived in 1873, the town was renamed for John W. Forney, a journalist and railroad board member, and it was incorporated in 1884, according to a 2021 Texas House resolution. For generations it was a farm town shipping cotton, corn, grain and onions.
In 1987 the Legislature recognized Forney as the Antique Capital of Texas, thanks to the dealers who lined US 80. The town's other big neighbor arrived around the same time: Lake Ray Hubbard, once called Forney Lake, which the Texas Water Development Board notes began filling in 1968 behind the Rockwall-Forney Dam.
Since then the growth has been dramatic. Forney counted 23,455 people at the 2020 census, and the Census Bureau's 2023 estimates ranked it among the 15 fastest-growing cities of its size in the U.S.

Planning a Forney Floor
New build?
Check the pour date. At least 28 days of cure, then a moisture test.
Older slab?
Expect grinding to remove stains and any old paint.
HOA rules?
Garage interiors are rarely covered, but check before sealing a driveway with a color.
Sun on the door?
Ask for a UV-stable topcoat.
Do new Forney homes need to wait before coating the garage?
Yes, the slab needs to cure for at least 28 days, and a moisture test confirms it. Most homes are past that by closing.
Can older Forney garages with oil stains be coated?
Usually. Grinding removes the stained top layer, and degreasing treats deeper spots. Flake hides what remains.

Yes, including Travis Ranch, Heartland and Fox Hollow, plus nearby Rockwall, Heath, Sunnyvale and Terrell.
